Made it to The Bag Lady Variety for an early lunch. Variety stores are kind of like convenience stores elsewhere, but also mostly serve food, like lunch counters.
We had the Cinnamon Swirl French Toast, upgraded with real maple syrup, plus a side of bacon and a fruit bowl.
There’s a Berlin connection here. The owner has family there and among the 50s-70s Canadiana / Americana there are various German / Berlin things.
From there we walked to downtown. On the way back we stopped at Variety Cafe for a cold drink. The wasps were swarming so we stuck inside. I had a Collective Arts Sicilian Lemon Gose and R had a Rubicon Exotic Sparkling Mango.
Some afternoon naps later we walked over to Real Canadian Superstore and got dinner ingredients.
For some reason R couldn’t remember “Tater Tots”. We ended up with hash brown logs. Red bell peppers, halloumi, mild Italian sausages, hummus, mushrooms, red onions, carrots,
I chopped up the mushrooms, carrots, and red onion and tossed on a baking sheet with olive oil, salt, minced garlic, balsamic vinegar, and lemon herb seasoning. Roasted for 10 minutes then tossed with chopped red bell peppers. Then put on broil.
Added a dollop of green goddess dressing to hummus and thinned with water. Also mixed in the roast vegetable drippings. Had this all over salad, veggies, and hash browns.
Pan fried the halloumi. Roasted the sausages.
