Woke up to rain today.
I posted some photos last night of kolach and had a comment that Topfen is apparently the Austrian word for Quark.
We walked over to White Rabbit Coffee and wandered around the Old City Quarter.
The Old City Quarter is nestled in the heart of Nanaimo, just steps from the downtown core. Consisting of a collection of owner operated businesses, from specialty food stores to metaphysical treasures to wealth managers and chiropractors, the Old City Quarter oozes vibrancy and community. Originally the economic centre of the city, the area is a charming mix of revitalized heritage buildings and thoughtful new development.
Most places are closed on Mondays, but we did go into a few places. Vancouver Island Refillery had interesting stainless steel razors called Leaf that made me research a bunch. The little book shop is nice.
It started raining pretty hard so we ended up going for lunch at Bistro Taiyo Japanese Restaurant. It was pretty average.
It kept raining heavily even after lunch. We went into the upstairs Bazaar in The Vault where just a vintage thrift clothing store was open. There look to be some interesting art studios and little shops there.
Side door of The Vault going upstairs.
Wyrd Wealth opening hours
We went to London Drugs in Port Place Shopping Centre and got an umbrella. We were still soaked by the time we got home.
For dinner, I made an omelette. I beat 6 eggs with a Tbsp of mayo and added fresh basil and salt.
I cooked it in butter until it began to set. Then I added Brie and tomato slices and cracked pepper and put it on broil in the oven. This melted the Brie, made the omelette puff up. Almost too broiled, but was tasty
Dinner beer was White Sails Lost Lake Pale Ale.
