  • 6 cups water
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/3 cup plus 2 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 - 3/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 cup tomato passata
  • 1 3/4 tsp table salt
  • 12 ounces spaghetti
